In their first home game of 2019, the John Carroll men's basketball team fell short against the Student Princes of Heidelberg University, dropping a 92-65 decision on Wednesday night.
The Student Princes set the pace in the opening half, starting the game with an 8-2 run. Heidelberg used a 19-0 run midway through the first half to break the contest wide open, and would take a 48-24 lead going into halftime.
Jackson Sartain led John Carroll in the first half, finishing with nine points.
Connor Fitzgerald chipped in seven, shooting 3-5 from the field.
Heidelberg would continue their momentum in the second half, shooting 47 perfect from the field to snap an 18-game losing streak at the hands of John Carroll dating back to 2010.
For John Carroll, Sartain finished the game with a team high 15 points, while
Jimmy Berger added 11.
Sean Flannery and Fitzgerald also combined for nine assists.
The Heidelberg offense was led by Myron Prewitt, who finished the game with 30 points and 26 rebounds.
With the loss, John Carroll now holds a 6-8 (2-5 OAC) record on the season. Heidelberg improved to 5-9 overall and 3-4 in league play.
The Blue Streaks will next travel to Bexley, Ohio to take on the Crusaders of Capital University. Tip-off is set for 1 p.m.
