John Carroll unveiled its chaotic offense to the delight of 3,600 Homecoming fans yesterday as the Blue Streaks rolled over the stubborn Case Tech, 29-7, at newly christened Wasmer Field.

The field is named in honor of John C. Wasmer, Sr. and the Wasmer Family.

Carroll coach Jerry Schweickert warned that his Streaks would play a more wide open brand of football this year and when Dan Renehan is a quarterback not even Schweickert knows what will happen.

Renahan, a senior, splits the signal-calling duties with more conventional Don Brown, a senior from Chicago. Renehan specializes in broken plays and yesterday he ran for 115 yards in 12 carries on those plays.

On one touchdown drive in particular, Renehan accounted for 27 of the 37 yards, including the last one when he sneaked in for a touchdown. Each time Dan ran for his life.
"Danny is chaotic ... we never know what he'll do" said Schweickert. "But he somehow gets yardage."

"Sometimes, he'll bring the team 90 yards and then stall. And other times he'll go 90 yards for a score himself."

Yesterday, it took the Streaks a little while to get untracked. Case went on top early in the first quarter when Earl Overstreet scored from the three on an end around. The Rough Rider touchdown was set up when Carroll's Johnny Pollard fumbled a punt on his own six-yard line.

Carroll organized its forces later in the first period with Brown at the controls.

Halfback Tim Andrassy circled left end for a 10 yard touchdown with 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter to make it one TD apiece.

Andrassy's score culminated a 73-yard drive of 12 plays in which Tim gained 32 yards in six carries.

Early in the second quarter Renehan scored his touchdown to give Carroll a 13-7 halftime advantage.

End Mike Arendt booted a 35-yard and halfback Jim Chenet went around right end for an 18 yard touchdown scamper for the third quarter scoring.

Fullback Jim Prenatt bolted one yard for the final score.

Arendt's fielder climaxed a 54-yard drive as did Chenet's gallop. Prenatt's TD was set up when teammate Mike Marisco recovered a Case fumble on the Rough Riders' 36-yardline.

"It was tough getting our kids up for this game." Schweikert lamented. "No matter what we told them they wouldn't get high. And when Case scored we just couldn't turn it on."

"(Case coach Doug) Mooney made men out of boys after their 69-14 beating last week ... Case never gave up out there today," the Carroll coach concluded.

Carroll dominated play with 530 yards total offense to Case's 81. Case was minus six on the ground. Renehan and Andrassy led the runners with 115 yards each.

"The difference was on the line. Their line play was just too tough for us," Mooney explained.

Carroll's new stadium, Wasmer Field, is one of the finest small college stadiums in the country. Every seat is a good one and despite Friday's rain the playing field was in good condition.
