John Carroll Defeats Grove City To Finish 2-0 At Allegheny Classic

A strong second half effort carried John Carroll to an 88-71 win over Grove City on the second and final day of the Greg Richards Memorial Classic Saturday at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pennsylvania.

The Blue Streaks led by just five at the break (43-38) but outscored the Wolverines by a 45-33 margin in the final 20 minutes to finish the weekend 2-0.

JCU beat Waynesburg, 78-58, yesterday.

Grove City scored the first two points of the second half to make the score, 43-40, but the Blue Streaks responded with a 14-4 run over the next three minutes to push te advantage up to 57-44. Back-to-back-to-back three pointers by Jackson Sartain, Sean Flannery and Sartain again keyed the big run.

Once the Blue Streaks had the lead into double digits, Grove City would get no closer than ten points the rest of the way.

For John Carroll, Ryan Berger led all scorers with 24 points, followed by Sartain with 23 and Jimmy Berger with 16.

Ryan Berger was 8-14 from the field, 4-8 from three-point range, and 4-6 from the free throw line in just 21 minutes of court time.

Sartain was 8-13 from the field, including 7-12 from long range. Sartain eclipsed 200 three-point field goals made in a career during the game and now sits at 202. He is only the second player in program history to ake 200 three-point field goals.

Flannery finished the game with ten assists, giving him 16 for the weekend.

JCU made 15 three-pointers as a team.

Grove City (0-3) was led by 18 points and 14 boards from James Wells.
