For the first time since 1994, the John Carroll women's soccer team is off to a 2-0 start thanks to a victory over visiting Westminster Sunday at Don Shula Stadium.
Goals by
Brittany Dufalla and
Casey Lindstrom lifted the Blue Streaks to a 2-1 triumph in the fourth meeting ever between the two schools and the first since 2011.
Dufalla's goal was courtesy of a great feed from
Sydney Scello, and put John Carroll on the board first in the 19th minute. That score would stand as JCU outshot Westminster, 9-8, in the opening 45 minutes.
Westminster knotted the match at 1-1 in the 56th minute when a great combo from Kayla Trozzi and Gabrielle Diamond found Julia Redilla streaking toward the JCU goal. Pedilla beat the keeper to the ball with a header for the Titans lone goal of the afternoon.
Lindstrom's game winner came in the 62nd minute. Taking a pass from
Rachel Braunegg, the junior wheeled in open space and laced a shot to the right side for what was her first career goal.
JCU won the shots battle, 18-13, while Westminster had the lion's share of corners, taking six against the Blue Streaks' two.
