Lucia Cannata has won the OAC Indoor Track Athlete of the Week three times this season
Sophomore sprinter
Lucia Cannata has been deemed the Ohio Athletic Conference's Women's Track Athlete of the Week for the fourth time in her career (indoor and outdoor). This is also Cannata's third time winning this award in the past four weeks.
On Saturday, Cannata was part of the Blue Streaks team which headed out to Westerville, Ohio, to compete in the All-Ohio Championships hosted by Otterbein University.
On the afternoon, Cannata would continue her tear through the indoor season by competing in both the 60-meter and 200-meter dashes.
In the 60-meter dash, Cannata claimed a first place and broke the school record with a time of 7.70 seconds. Her time was also good enough to rewrite the meet record, previously held by Mary Mahoney of Mount Union who ran a 7.76 back on 2/9/2013.
In her next event, the 200-meter dash, Cannata crossed the finish line first to grab her second gold of the day. She did so in 25.55 seconds.
The valiant effort put fourth by Cannata helped John Carroll place third out of the 18 teams in competition.
Looking forward, Cannata and the Blue Streaks will head to Kent State this coming weekend for a tune-up before the all important OAC Championships on February 28-29 in Marietta, Ohio.
