Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 John Carroll split their first doubleheader in Florida today against King's College.  The Blue Streaks won the first game with good pitching and timely hitting. In game two, King's College were the ones who had the timely hitting.

Game One

Mitch Midea had his top stuff in game one.  The sophomore shined in the Sunshine state, at one point striking out 11 batters in a row and 12 total for his five and a third innings pitched.  Throughout those 5.1 innings, Midea allowed just one run and walked one batter.

"I was mainly just focused on keeping my team in the game.  It was a close game and I wanted to keep our offense in it as long as possible," said Midea, "Once the strikeouts started coming, I focused on keeping my mechanics the same and not trying to overdo it."

John Carroll's offense would strike first by playing small ball for a run.  Then with the base loaded, Christian Cassaro dropped the barrel of his bat on the ball and watched it fly down the right field line.  Cassaro would clear the bases with a three-run triple.

Cassaro would come around on a Sam Heaton RBI single.  The Blue Streaks would scratch another run across when Brady Fields singled home David Ferguson in the sixth inning.

King's College would score one in the bottom of the sixth before Jack Bennett would come in and shut them down for the rest of the game.  Bennett got five outs without allowing a run. Three of those five outs were by way of strikeout, making 15 of the 21 outs in the first game by way of strikeout.

Heaton was the only Blue Streak to get multiple hits with two and Cassaro's three RBI were half of the teams six total runs.

Game Two

The second game would not go John Carroll's way.  King's College got on the board first with a home run in the top of the first inning and stayed ahead the whole time.

John Merrill had six strikeouts through three and two thirds innings pitched before he was relieved by Jack Kartsonas, who allowed two runs in his three and a third innings pitched for his first career outing.

The Blue Streaks got something going in the bottom of the fifth when down 4-0.  Christian Cassaro was singled in by Aaron Zawadzki with two outs and Sam Heaton moved to third.  A pop out would end the inning and would be the last time a Blue Streaks got past second base on the night.

As a team John Carroll could only muster up four hits and one run as the final score ended up being 6-1, an inversion of the first game.

The Blue Streaks will be back in action tomorrow with a doubleheader against Muhlenberg.  They look to get a couple more notches in the wins column as they bring in a 3-2 record on the year.
