Nine Unanswered Goals In First Half Spurs Blue Streaks To Road Win At Aurora

It took John Carroll more than 12 minutes to score its first goal this afternoon at Aurora.

Once they found the back of the net, the Blue Streaks could not stop. Nine unanswered goals in the first half erased an early 3-0 deficit, and spurred John Carroll to a 14-9 victory over the Spartans.

This was JCU's first win in four tries against Aurora.

After Aurora opened up a 3-0 lead, Skyler Blake got JCU on the board at the 2:03 mark of the first period. Brendan Whitty followed less than a minute later, and the score was 3-2 after on period of play in favor of the hosts.

The Blue Streaks kept applying the pressure, and it paid off. Colin Corcoran tied the game at 3-3 off a Whitty assist at the 9:30 mark. Just over two minutes later, Corcoran scored again, off another pass from Whitty, to give JCU what would be the lead for good with 7:28 to play.

Kevin Hack, Bennett Gorman, Cam Gerard and Whitty scored the next four goals to build the Blue Streak lead to 8-3.

Then, with three ticks left on the second quarter clock, Gorman scored again to make the score 9-3 at the intermission.

Aurora closed to within five goals early in the third, but JCU answered with four more goals (Blake, Clayton Karam, Gerard and Hack) to put the game out of reach.

Evean Schneeberger had a good day in the face off circle, going 14-23.

Gorman and Whitty each had four assists. Karam had six ground ball, and Karam and Sully Dansbury each caused two turnovers.

John Carroll had just 11 turnovers while Aurora had 20.

With the win, JCU is now 2-1 while Aurora falls to 2-3 with the loss.
