SAAC Leading Sock Drive "Socktober" to Collect Socks for Those in Need

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- Socks are the most requested, yet least received, things from homeless shelters. So, with the weather getting colder and socks now needed, John Carroll University Athletics is working to help alleviate the need.

JCU's Student Athletic Advisory Committee (SAAC) is pairing with R.A.K.E (Random Acts of Kindness Everywhere) to donate socks to those in need.

The initiative, named "Socktober," aims to collect socks during the month of October so that when November arrives, socks can be donated to those in need.

SAAC will be leading the efforts on campus at JCU to solicit sock donations. SAAC team representatives will be leading their teams in collecting new socks to donate, with a friendly inter-team competition.

Fans, families, and alumni can get involved, as well. A collection bin will be placed at the entrance of Don Shula Stadium before football and soccer games, and at the entrance of the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center before volleyball games. Fans are encouraged to bring new socks and drop them in the donation bin before games.

At the end of the month, the socks will be donated to the Labre Project at JCU.
