Penalty Kicks Sink JCU against Wilmington in Regular Season Finale

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The John Carroll women's soccer season comes to an end falling on the road 2-1 against Wilmington College, despite outshooting the opposition 17-5. Wilmington capitalized in the second half by converting two pentalty kicks into goals. 

The Blue Streaks attack applied the pressure early with their first chance occurring in the fifth minute on a corner kick, but the Fightin' Quakers defesne held strong and cleared the ball.

In the 27th minute, senior Brittany Dufalla found the back of the net registering her team-high ninth goal.

JCU stayed on the offensive as Macey Malinky attempted a shot less than one minute, but Lauren Galloway of Wilmington made the stop. John Carroll had three more chances in the first half but all were unsuccessful and went into the locker room up 1-0.

The Blue and Gold owned an advantage of nine shots compared to Wilmington's two, while also attempting three corner kicks as the Fightin' Quakers 

After trading possession for the first 25 minutes of the second half, John Carroll committed a foul in the box resulting in a penalty kick for Wilmington as Haley Fulton tied the contest at 1-1.

Less than three minutes later, Wilmington was in the same position attempting its second penalty shot. This time, Abby Spirk scored putting the Fightin' Quakers up 2-1.

The John Carroll attack continued to push but was unsuccessful with its final chance in the 86th minute on a corner kick which was thwarted.

Dufalla and Malinky led the way by both recording five shots, as Danielle Delgiudice had two saves.

The Blue and Gold end the season 7-11-1 overall and 2-7 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
