BEXLEY, Ohio -- John Carroll University Men's Soccer visited Capital University on a nice and warm Saturday night, just three hours after the Blue Streak Football team came out victorious on the same field.
The newly-named Comets were the last team to give JCU an Ohio Athletic Conference loss back in 2018, but the Blue Streaks' conference winning streak would continue.
With a 5-1 win the Blue Streaks improved to 3-0 in the OAC and have a 11-1 goal differential in those three games.
The Blue Streaks got an early opportunity with a corner kick in the third minute, and a shot by Jack Foht went on goal, but Capital's goalkeeper Brady Frydl sent the threat away and had a successful clear. Capital looked to quickly respond after a foul just outside the box, but John Carroll was able to keep the ball out of the net without a shot. Foht had another shot on a header off of a cross, but Frydl answered again with a diving save as the first 10 minutes went scoreless. Will Turrittin got on the stat sheet with a shot opportunity off another JCU corner, but Brady Frydl got his third save in the first 15 minutes.
In the 20th minute, JCU got on the scoreboard. Stephen Schutt found Benjamin Hryszko with space, and the fourth Blue Streak shot on goal found the back of the net for a 1-0 early lead. Hryszko notched his fourth goal of the season, tying him for first on the team with Jack Foht.
Just moments later, John Carroll would get two corner kicks and a throw in deep in Capital's defensive zone, but only one shot by James Hoover came off it as it sailed wide of the far post resulting in a goal kick. 16 minutes after the first goal, Turrittin found Nicholas Graeca. The freshman, fresh off the bench, found the back of the net for his third goal of the season.
Capital managed just two shots, none on goal and only one corner kick opportunity. JCU had nine shots, six on goal, and four corners.
However, just seven minutes into the second half, the Capital Comets got on the board Matt Scheper, as the lead was cut to 2-1.
After trading a few possessions, a Capital foul in the box gave John Carroll a penalty shot. Turrittin took the penalty shot and capitalized to make it 3-1 John Carroll with just 20 minutes to go.
Just moments later, the dagger came by the foot of James Hoover. Jared Mattei found Hoover and he put the ball in the back right of the net to make it 4-1.
In the final 10 minutes of the game, Ben Brucken came off the bench, and was able to put another in net for good measure for the Blue Streaks to make it 5-1. John Carroll ended up outshooting Capital 14-5, and 10-1 in shots on goal.
The Blue Streaks improve to 6-3-2, 3-0 in OAC play, and have won all three conference matchups by three goals or more.
The Blue Streaks will travel to nationally ranked Otterbein on Wednesday Oct. 13 in Westerville.
