Men's Soccer Bests Muskingum on the Road to Begin 2021 Season

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- The first game of the season ended with a win for John Carroll University Men's Soccer.

The Blue Streaks earned a 2-0 victory to begin the 2021 season.

The beginning of the first half started out with multiple back-and-forth fouls from the Blue Streaks and the Muskingum Fighting Muskies.

Nine minutes into the game, the Blue Streaks started a steady rhythm of ball control. This rhythm led to the first goal scored by Jared Ianiro. William Turrittin provided the assist that gave the Blue Streaks a 1-0 advantage.

After Ianiro's goal, the Blue Streaks attempted to shoot 3 goals, nothing was made until Michael Burrington scored with a direct kick and an assist by Jared Mattei. The score was now 2-0.

The ball play remained to be on the Fighting Muskies' goal side as if the field was tilted.

By halftime, the Blue Streaks had 11 shot attempts, while the Fighting Muskies had 0.

In the second half, the Fighting Muskies came out with the energy they were lacking in the first half. The Muskies and Blue Streaks had 3 corner kicks in a row each, but neither team was able to capitalize on them.

With each minute elapsing, the Muskies' chances of coming back were less and less. The Blue Streaks were calm and collected throughout the remaining minutes of the game.

The Blue Streaks were able to confidently pass the ball around while time declined. The final seconds ran out and the John Carroll Blue Streaks started their season with a 2-0 win.

Next on the slate for the Blue and Gold are the Mount Union Raiders. John Carroll will head to Alliance on Thursday, March 18 for game two of the season.
