TIFFIN, Ohio -- Milliseconds separated the Blue Streaks from first place in several races, but the Blue Streaks secured second place with no problem at the 2021 Ohio Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.

John Carroll University Men's Track & Field finished second after two full days of racing. Mount Union won the OAC crown with 246.5 points, ahead of JCU's second-place tally of 187 and Ohio Northern's third-place finish of 96 points.

The Blue Streaks have now tabbed second place at the OAC Outdoor meet in three straight seasons dating back to 2018.

The first important finish of the day came in the Triple Jump. Willis Goodwin earned bronze with a leap of 13.03m, while Jimmy Kartsonas followed closely with a mark of 12.87m.

Zach Szafarski collected four points in the shot put. The sophomore tossed a throw of 13.80m. Joe McNulty nearly missed on scoring with a toss of 12.70m.

To open the track events, the Blue Streaks nipped at the Purple Raiders' heels in the 4x100 relay and nearly won the event, missing out on the title by .02 seconds. Garrett Clark, Mick Doyle, Mark Zahren, and Deven Ward combined for a time of 41.28 and second place.

The 1500m race also saw Mount Union barely edge JCU, this time by just .01. Ian Pierson clocked a time of 3:55.29 for second place for the Blue and Gold. Pat White nabbed fifth place with a time of 3:57.59 and Ethan Domitrovich clipped seventh with a mark of 4:02.80.

Unlike the previous couple races, the 100m dash belonged to the Blue Streaks. Garrett Clark and Deven Ward swept the top two spots, just like in the prelims on Thursday. Clark dashed to a time of 10.72 and Ward snagged second with a time of 10.74.

Clark and Ward did wonderful work again together in the 200m dash. The duo flagged down first and second, racing to nice times. Clark clocked in at 21.45 and Ward crossed at 21.70.

Caleb Correia and Gabe Ernest worked together in the 800m. Correia cast a time of 1:57.11 for third and Ernest snagged a mark of 1:57.39 for fourth.

Much like Clark and Ward, Jake Darby and Ian Pierson seized a 1-2 finish. Darby bested the field easily with a marvelous mark of 15:06.07. Pierson papered a time of 15:14.63 for a great second-place performance.

In the final race of the day, the 4x400 relay, the Blue Streaks forced their way onto the podium. Correia, Doyle, Mark Zahren, and Ward flew to third with a time of 3:22.13. The bronze finish in the 4x400 cemented JCU in second place.
