Men's Soccer Secures Second Win in Columbus, Besting the Comets

BEXLEY, Ohio – Two trips to Columbus, two 2-0 victories.

Following a 2-0 road win over Otterbein on Wednesday, John Carroll Men's Soccer scored another 2-0 victory in Columbus on Saturday, besting the Capital Comets this afternoon.

The Blue Streaks are now 11-4-1 on the season, 6-1 in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

Capital fired off a couple early shots, tallying a shot on goal in the third minute. JCU's first shot did not come until the 18th minute when Hayden Haffner forced the Comets to make a save. The next 10 minutes elapsed without any shots on goal when Capital tallied a shot.

The Blue Streaks tested the Comets in the 41st minute, as Blake Barna fired a shot top left. Aidan Bozak also tabbed a shot top right in the final minute of the half that was saved.

The teams stood deadlocked at 0-0 entering the break.

The Comets and Blue Streaks traded shots on goal in the 50th and 54th minutes. In the 60th minute, Patrick Koenig started to find a rhythm, sending in a shot. In the 68th minute, Koenig broke through for JCU at last.

Koenig broke the ice with a clutch goal, his fourth goal of the season, which is tied for the team lead.

And if that wasn't enough, the Blue Streaks made sure the Comets did not get a late comeback. In the 85th minute, Daniel Kalic came up in the clutch.

On an odd man rush, Kalic beat a man with a move, and toe tapped in a rolling ball for the insurance goal. The tally was the first of his JCU career.

In the final minutes of the game, the Blue Streaks remained strong to prevent a comeback.

John Carroll's subs off the bench played a large role in the conquest. Noah Lindon and Blake Barna in particular played a vital role in the victory.

John Carroll will return home on Wednesday after the Columbus sojourns. The Blue Streaks will be hosting the Raiders of Mount Union.
