ANGOLA, Ind. -- The John Carroll University Wrestling team competed at the Trine Invitational yesterday, and had 9 wrestlers placing in the top 6 of their respective brackets. No team scores were kept.

NCAA All-Americans Luke Reicosky and Andrew Perelka both had notable performances, with Luke winning the tournament for the second year in a row, and Andrew tying the all-time pin record at John Carroll.

Reicosky went 4-0 in the 165-pound weight class, making him a back-to-back Trine Invitational Champion. Luke picked up a major decision (12-2), a fall (2:00), and a decision (6-0), to bring him to the finals, where he won based on a medical forfeit.

Andrew Perelka (133 lbs.) fell short in the finals, however, with 2 falls (1:00 and 1:07) he tied the all-time pin record at John Carroll University (41). This is Andrew's 2nd record, setting the record for most pins in a single season (16) in 2019. With his next win by fall, Perelka will stand alone as JCU's all-time pin leader. Coincidentally, he currently shares the pin record with another Brecksville High School graduate and JCU All-American, Mike Markovic. Markovic set the record in 2002.

Patrick McGraw (157 lbs.) and Jesse Kantazar (197 lbs.) both placed second, with Patrick making it to the finals with three technical falls (18-1, 16-0, 16-1).  Kantazar also won three matches before narrowly losing in the finals (3-2).

Kale Buckiso (149 lbs.), Caiden Rodgers (184 lbs.), and Tom Blackwell (285 lbs.) placed 4th in their weight classes.  Trysten Zahoransky (174 lbs.) and Adam Salek (184 lbs.) both placed 5th, while Brody Arrundale (184 lbs.) placed 6th.

"It wasn't the greatest result we could have achieved," Head Coach Mark Hawald said, "but we are competing at the level I expect at this point in the season."

The Blue Streaks wrestle again on Tuesday, November 15, in the first official OAC dual of the season, against Mount Union. Wrestling starts at 7:00 pm in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.
