Men's Basketball Routs Muskingum to Open OAC Play

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On Saturday afternoon, John Carroll Women's Basketball enjoyed a fast-paced match up against Muskingum, coming out with an exceptional win.

JCU added a fresh win to their record, setting the Blue Streaks to 6-0 on the year.

The 102-56 victory gave John Carroll a win in the Ohio Athletic Conference opener.

It was a neck and neck start as Blue Streaks and the Muskies kept a close score, with John Carroll breaking the short, early deadlock and securing the lead. Chase Toppin scored first after a smooth driving layup to the basket.

Throughout the first half, the Blue Streaks proceeded to find each other on the court and execute well-run plays. Muskingum took a timeout with 12 minutes left in the first half after John Carroll ran out to a 13-point lead. Muskingum attempted to keep themselves in the game, but the Blue Streaks were quick to shut down their offense with the team's trademark press.

Omar Abuhamdeh stayed hot from his spot at guard, making multiple three pointers. The sophomore would finish as the team's leading scorer with a season-high 17 points, with a perfect 5-for-5 day shooting the 3-ball. He'd add 5 assists, as well.

A destructive block from Connor O'Toole against an attempted layup from the Muskies contributed to the high energy from JCU, as it was a perfect example of JCU's tough defense.

The Blue Streaks scored in bunches in transition, as JCU scored 26 points off the fast break. The high energy carried JCU's momentum to secure a big lead after the first half, 59-23.

With any lineup out of the court, John Carroll maintained the strong intensity and continued to make numerous baskets. The Blue Streaks' full court press added to the pressure against the Muskies, resulting in an impossible situation for Muskingum to keep themselves in the game.

The aggression continued from both teams as JCU kept extending the lead in the second half. John Carroll remained calm and collective while enjoying an exciting advantage on both sides of the court. The Streaks didn't stop pressing the advantage, as Luke Frazier opened up the second half with a quick 3-pointer.

As the game hit halfway through the second stanza, John Carroll extended their lead to 87-32. The team continued to show off their skills and never looked back.

The matchup ended with a blowout of 102-56. Henry Raynor was a key player in the game, as he ended with 12 points and 5 rebounds. Jerry Higgins III contributed significantly to the win as well, finishing with ten points and three assists.

John Carroll shot a red-hot 59.2% from the field, including a great 11-of-21 from 3-point range. The visitors scuffled with 23 turnovers, while JCU tallied 12 steals. John Carroll tallied a total of 61 bench points, as just about everyone got significant time on the court.

The Blue Streaks will look to continue their winning streak at Mount Union on Wednesday, December 7 at 7 pm.
