Men's Track & Field Opens 2022-23 Season with Nice Day at Spartan Lidlifter

The Blue Streaks started the season on a positive note. 
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Blue Streaks started off strong in the indoor track & field season. With numerous top three finishes, the Blue Streaks will be looking to make some noise around the OAC as the season progresses. 

John Carroll University Men's Track & Field opened up their season at the 9th Annual Spartan Holiday Lidlifter on Saturday. 

Here's how the Blue Streaks performed on Saturday just down the road at Case Western Reserve University.

Zach Szafarski and Noah Schroeder both finished inside the top five in the weight throw finals, placing second and fourth, respectively. Szafarski's distance was 14.15m, just 0.50m short of a new personal record. Schroeder did in fact record a new personal best with a distance of 13.76m, which beat his previous best of 13.38m. Alec Gorman also finished 10th in the event.

Jimmy Kartsonas jumped his way into second place in the long jump with a distance of 6.52m, just 0.35m away from his career best. Tyler Gast also had a strong showing with a distance of 5.79m, which was good enough for seventh place in the event in his debut. 

The Blue Streaks brought home first and second place in the shot put. Russo recorded a distance of 13.95m in a 1st place effort. Szafarski came in 2nd place with a distance of 13.54m. Schroeder also had a strong showing with a distance of 12.01m. 

Mick Doyle grabbed another top three finish for the Blue Streaks with a third place effort in the 60m hurdles. Doyle's time was 9.29 seconds and just 0.6 seconds away from first place.

The 500m was another solid event for John Carroll with four runners finishing in the top five. Doyle finished in second with a time of 1:08.50. Brody Hanlon was right behind him in third place with a time of 1:09.14. Cam Klauke and Victor Ononogbo were in fourth and fifth respectively with times of 1:10.31 and 1:12.89. 

Garrett Clark got his season started on the right track. He finished in second place in the 60m dash with a time of 7.08, narrowly missing first place by 0.08. Kartsonas and Gast also ran in the event. They finished in fourth and eighth, respectively. 

One of the largest events of the day was the 200m dash with 26 total runners. Leading the way for the Blue Streaks was Basheer Alramahai with a time of 23.54, good enough for a fourth place finish. Daylen Glaze and Edwin Abiakl also had solid showings with times of 24.31 and 24.67. 

The Blue Streaks have the YSU Collegiate Holiday Classic on the slate before Christmas break.
