Women's Tennis Falls to Pair of Stout Regional Teams at Wooster on Sunday

WOOSTER, Ohio -- Following yesterday's spring opener to ease into the season, John Carroll Women's Tennis dove back in on Sunday.

Facing one of the country's best teams in Carnegie Mellon and a strong team in Wooster, the Blue Streaks dropped two matches.

John Carroll fell to Carnegie Mellon, 9-0, and Wooster, 5-4.

The Blue Streaks couldn't get anything going against the Tartans, who entered the season ranked No. 5 in the ITA team rankings. But there is no shame in the loss, as Carnegie Mellon is one of the nation's top teams. Sarah Yang entered at No. 35 nationally in singles, and showed it with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 2 singles. Megan Reese saw the closest match at No. 1 singles with a 6-4, 6-2 loss. Reese and Mia Zivkovic also gave Carnegie Mellon's No. 1 doubles team a run for its money in an 8-3 loss.

Turning their attention to Wooster, Megan Reese and Mia Zivkovic battled to a hard-fought victory at No. 1 doubles, 8-7, which required a 7-4 tiebreaker. The victory was very well-earned.

Unfortunately, the other two doubles matches went in favor of the Fighting Scots. Caroline Chandler and Morgan Little experienced an 8-3 setback at No. 2 doubles. Peyton Crumpler and Emily Duckett drew an 8-3 loss at No. 3.

Reese again experienced a difficult match at No. 1 singles, but got the job done with a ferocious 7-6, 6-0 conquest. Zivkovic also did her job at No. 2 singles, firing to a 6-3, 6-1 victory.

Caroline Chandler then experienced a 7-5, 6-0 loss at No. 4 singles. Wooster evened up the singles matches with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Jaclyn Voss at the No. 5 spot. The Fighting Scots then clinched the match at No. 3, which required a tiebreaker set after Morgan Little split, 6-3, 5-7. Wooster's Janaki Jagannathan got it done with a 10-3 conquest.

Peyton Crumpler's No. 6 match took the longest, as she opened with a 6-3 win before dropping a 6-4 loss. The tiebreaker set went to the youngster, who just eked out a 10-8 victory in the tiebreaker.

John Carroll will now begin preparation for a busy spring break trip in a few weeks.
