CLEVELAND, Ohio -- With just a week to go before the start of the Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, the Blue Streaks are putting the finishing touches on preparations for the big meet.

One of the last preparations for the championship was the Eddie Finnigan Greater Cleveland Colleges Meet at Case Western Reserve University on Friday.

The Blue Streaks performed aptly, putting together some nice performances en route to a second-place effort.

Matthew Russo's emergence as a star has been one of the storylines for the program this winter. The freshman captured first in the shot put, hurling a toss of 14.82m. His teammate, Zach Szafarski, did the honors in the weight throw with a winning mark of 15.61m. And even then, Russo still shined, hitting a season-high 14.92m. Alec Gorman tallied a 10.51m in the weight throw and a 11.14m in the shot put.

Sticking with the field events, Corey Minton took home the gold in the triple jump, as his leap of 13.89m won the day. Anton Peregoncev followed closely behind at 12.18m.

The 60m dash had three Blue Streaks in the finals. Mark Zahren took the title, clipping a time of 7.18, not far off his PR. Cam Klauke snagged third in 7.26, also very close to a PR, as was Victor Ononogbo with a fifth-place finish of 7.55.

Mick Doyle was crowned the champ in the 400m. The sophomore soared to a time of 51.90 for the top placement.

The Blue Streaks hit 1-2 in the 1000m. John Shoemaker roared for a PR with a time of 2:33.22, improving eight seconds from this time last year. Pat White snagged second with a PR of 2:33.84, shaving off nearly six seconds from only a month ago.

Zach Walsh ran a solo race in the 500m, and did well despite the lonely run. The freshman clocked in at 1:11.52.

Four Blue Streaks competed in the 200m. Ononogbo led the pack at 23.88, Aryan Malte followed close behind in 24.39, Michael Jones clocked in at 25.11, and Adam Balkey notched a time of 25.18.

To wrap things up, the JCU 4x400 relay took first. Zahren, Klauke, Evan Piscitani, and Caleb Correia clocked a time of 3:29.06.

Another JCU contingent will compete on Saturday, heading to Kent State for the final tune-up.
