ALLIANCE, Ohio -- The John Carroll Men's Indoor Track & Field team headed into Day 2 just behind Mount Union in second place at the 2022 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Championships held in Alliance.

For the second straight year, the Blue Streaks would come in second in the OAC behind Mount Union.

Final Results

Despite that, the Blue Streaks did have plenty of reasons to celebrate, especially with a couple of awards in hand. Garrett Clark earned Co-Men's Sprinter Award and Alex Phillip won the Men's Distance Runner Award.

Day 2 began with a great Triple Jump performance for the Blue Streaks. Corey Minton (second), Jimmy Kartsonas (third), and Willis Goodwin (fourth) earned the Blue Streaks 19 points in the first event. Unfortunately, the Blue Streaks came up just short the rest of the way in the field events, and needed a big push on the track.

The Blue Streaks had a good start to the track events with a third-place finish in the 4x200m Relay with a team of Cam Klauke, Mark Zahren, Victor Ononogbo, and Mick Doyle. John Carroll followed that up with a combined 22 points in the Mile. Alex Philip won the event, Ethan Domitrovich placed fourth, Cormac Peppard-Kramer placed fifth, and Ian Pierson finished sixth.

Zach Gerber got the sprints started with a great sixth place effort in the 60m Hurdles. Then, Garrett Clark took over. Clark won the 60m and finished second in the 200m. The junior continues another phenomenal season for the Blue Streaks.

As the meet transitioned to the middle-distance and distance races, the Blue Streaks would continue to flex their muscle. Caleb Correia won the 800m, with Gabe Ernest (fourth) and Evan Piscitani (seventh) right behind him.

The Blue Streaks finished out the track events with great finishes in the 1000m and 3k. Ethan Domitrovich won the 1000m, while Ian Pierson placed fifth, Pat White finished sixth, and John Shoemaker tallied seventh.

Jamie Dailey would continue to grow his John Carroll legacy on Saturday. A strong leader on and off the track, the fifth-year senior took control of the 3K and never gave it up, winning the race by less than a second. Alex Phillip placed third, Barrett Scheatzle finished fifth, Jared Arnold got sixth, and Ryan Champa placed eighth.

John Carroll would finish second in team points (184) only to Mount Union (240 points) for the second consecutive indoor season.

The Blue Streaks will head to Ada, Ohio next Saturday March 4 for the Polar Bear Qualifier as a final tune-up before the NCAA Indoor Nationals, where JCU will be sending a strong contingent of runners to compete against the best runners in the country.
