Women's Tennis Opens Florida Trip Red-Hot

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Following a loss to Wittenberg to open the Florida trip, the Blue Streaks are red-hot.

John Carroll Women's Tennis has now tallied back-to-back wins, first upending Saint Mary's College (IN), 8-1 on Monday. Then on Tuesday, the Blue Streaks pulled off a 6-3 conquest over a strong North Carolina Wesleyan College team.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks are now 3-3 overall on the year.

JCU vs. Saint Mary's

As most folks back in Northeast Ohio headed into work on rainy Monday, John Carroll Women's Tennis enjoyed a warm, sunny Florida morning at the USTA National Campus.

The Blue Streaks got a nice result, too, firing off an 8-1 victory over Saint Mary's College (IN).

John Carroll began by winning two of the three doubles matches. Megan Reese and Mia Zivkovic set the tone at the No. 1 slot, breezing to an 8-2 conquest atop the stat sheet.

Morgan Little and Caroline Chandler paired nicely at No. 2. The JCU combo collected an 8-4 victory. Emily Day and Jaclyn Voss fought hard, but experienced the lone loss of the day, an 8-6 setback.

Reese stood atop the lineup at the No. 1 singles position, and did her duty. The veteran secured a 6-3, 7-5 win. Zivkovic also wrapped up a neat victory, winning 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 2 spot. Little eased past her foe at No. 3, as well, with a 6-1, 6-1 win.

Chandler played efficiently at the No. 4 spot, penning a 6-0, 6-3 win. Day got revenge at the No. 5 singles, bursting out for a 6-1, 6-1 win. Peyton Crumpler's match at No. 6 proved to be the highlight of the day. She lost the first set, 6-3, before coming back in the second set with a 7-5 win. In the tiebreaker, she captured a 10-6 victory to earn the match.

JCU vs. North Carolina Wesleyan

The Blue Streaks faced an injury-plagued North Carolina Wesleyan team on Tuesday at Lake Cane Tennis Center. The Blue & Gold took advantage of forfeits at the No. 6 singles spot and No. 3 doubles spot.

But even still, the Blue Streaks may have won the match regardless, as John Carroll won four of seven closely contested matches.

The No. 1 doubles duo of Megan Reese and Mia Zivkovic ran into a buzzsaw at No. 1 doubles, experiencing an 8-2 loss. But Caroline Chandler and Morgan Little picked things up at No. 2 doubles, scoring an 8-6 conquest that was very well-earned in a close match.

Reese and Zivkovic played well but faced steep competition at No. 1 singles, as each bowed out with a loss. But the remaining three singles matches went to the Blue Streaks.

Morgan Little dominated her No. 3 singles match, breezing by with a 6-1, 6-0 win. The No. 4 singles spot was a battle of the Chandlers, as JCU's Caroline Chandler faced off with NCWC's Chandler Brice. In the end, JCU's Chandler captured a marvelous victory at No. 4 after a back-and-forth duel. And finally, Emily Day soared at the No. 5 spot. She played quite well with a 6-2, 6-3 conquest to round things out at the final contested singles spot.

In all, it was a great win for a JCU team facing off with a strong program.

The JCU Women wrap up the week on Friday vs. Cedarville at the USTA National Campus.
