Men's Lacrosse Dealt Heartbreaker at Home by Yellow Jackets

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- In a battle of two undefeated Ohio Athletic Conference teams and a rematch of the 2021 OAC Championship, the John Carroll Blue Streaks fell in a heartbreaking 9-8 contest against the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets.

The loss marks John Carroll's first defeat at Don Shula Stadium in 18 games, dating back to April of 2019.

Despite the loss, the Blue Streaks' offense put up an incredible fight, outshooting Baldwin Wallace, 49-27.

Throughout the entirety of the contest, both teams played competitively as they exchanged leads seven times.

Despite going down 2-0 early on, the John Carroll Blue Streaks rallied back to take a 4-2 lead courtesy of Kevin Hack and Brendan Whitty's goals and a pair of goals from Ian Flynn

The lead didn't last long as the Yellow Jackets stung the Blue Streaks scoring two goals within five seconds of each other towards the end of the second period.

Going into the locker room at halftime, both teams remained knotted up with a 4-4 tie.

The third period proved to be one of the biggest offensive quarters for both teams.

Coming out of halftime, the Blue Streaks were presented with an opportunity of being up a man, but, unfortunately, could not capitalize on the opportunity.

The battle of Northeast Ohio continued as Baldwin Wallace took a 5-4 lead at the 10:27 mark of the third period.

Once again, John Carroll answered to the Yellow Jackets' pressure as Reed Stuhlreyer and Cullen Zarek scored back-to-back goals, putting John Carroll ahead 6-5 with 6:22 left in the third period. It wasn't long until the Yellow Jackets tied it back up, forcing Tanner Gill-Snow to score for John Carroll, taking a 7-6 lead.

The fourth period began with Baldwin Wallace tying the game up at seven, and Matt Berdysiak pushing John Carroll ahead 8-7.

At the 11:19 mark, another goal from the Yellow Jackets would tie things up 8-8.

For a brief moment, it appeared that Morgan Morrell gave the Blue Streaks a go-ahead goal, but the referees of the contest waived it off.

Eventually, Baldwin Wallace scored the game-winning goal via Olin Ferguson with 3:29 left in the game.

The Blue Streaks will look to get back to their winning ways on Saturday, April 23, at 1 p.m. as they take on Muskingum University on the road.
