BEREA, Ohio -- For the first time in a long while, John Carroll Men's Track & Field got to stay close to home.

The weather finally cooperated for the Blue Streaks, and the squad took advantage.

The Blue Streaks compiled nice results at the 52nd annual Sparky Adams Invitational, hosted by Baldwin Wallace University. John Carroll finished first as a team on Saturday.

On a picture-perfect day, it was a balanced effort for the Blue Streaks that won the day.

Starting with the sprinters, the 4x100 relay team excelled. Mick Doyle, Garrett Clark, Mark Zahren, and Jimmy Kartsonas worked together quite well in the event. The JCU quartet combined for a time of 41.10, not only winning the event, but propelling them to sixth in Division III for the season. That's also the top time in the Ohio Athletic Conference.

Individually, the Blue Streaks dominated the 400m. Clark conquered the field with a time of 49.33. Zahren finished right on his tail, tallying a PR of 49.40. Cam Klauke carded seventh in 51.54 and Victor Ononogbo also scored with an eighth-place time of 51.72.

Zach Gerber returned to the 110m hurdles, and looked good. The senior snagged a fourth-place finish of 15.24. Sticking with the hurdles, Doyle bested the competition in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 54.61.

Ononogbo notched fifth in the 200m with a time of 22.80. Michael Jones also got a top-10 time of 23.75.

Three Blue Streaks clinched top 10 spots in the 800m. Caleb Correia cruised past a stacked field, clocking in at 1:53.69 for first. Michael Hvizdos came in closely behind, taking third in 1:56.77. Evan Piscitani rounded out the top 10 with a time of 2:01.32.

The 1500m provided one of the top highlights of the day for the Blue Streaks. Ethan Domitrovich headed the pack for the Blue Streaks, earning second in 3:52.87. Alex Phillip stretched out the legs with a time of 3:58.83 for fourth. Then, a pack of five Blue Streaks completed the top 10: Cormac Peppard-Kramer (3:59.75, 6th), Pat White (3:59.96, 7th), Matt Costanzo (4:00.02, 8th), Gabe Ernest (4:01.03, 9th), and John Shoemaker (4:01.55, 10th).

In the field events, Corey Minton shined. The Canada native bested his competitors in the triple jump, winning the day with a mark of 13.88m. Willis Goodwin (13.40m, 4th) and Kartsonas (12.65m, 5th) also competed in the event. Goodwin repped JCU in the long jump with a mark of 6.37m for sixth.

The throwers enjoyed a busy day at last with great weather. Matthew Russo continued an outstanding breakout campaign, winning the shot put with a heft of 15.02m. Zach Szafarski also did well, coming in fifth at 14.20m. Russo rolled as well in the discus, cementing a third-place finish at 41.58m. Alec Gorman (34.81m) took 16th in the event.

Szafarski anchored JCU in the weight throw, accomplishing a toss of 48.43m for fourth. Noah Schroeder returned after some missed time, and did well, with a sixth-place finish of 43.20m. Russo finished in eighth, but did set a new PR of 41.67m.

The javelin throw rounded things out for JCU. Zach Walsh steered the JCU contingent, as the Graville native recorded a toss of 42.18m for fourth. Szaraski capped a busy day with a 42.07m for fifth. Gorman rounded things out at 23.72m.
