Big Game Two Leads to Spilt With Wooster

After losing big to Wooster 13-4 in game one of a seven inning, non-conference double header, the John Carroll baseball team fired back and put up big runs as they won game two, 13-3 on the road.

JCU's overall record now moves to 18-18 on the season.

Game One
The home team Fighting Scots got off to a hot start as they scored five runs in the bottom of the first, courtesy of a Ben Gbur solo shot and a Dominic Stilliana grand slam.

The Blue and Gold could not get anything going at the plate, as Wooster suffocated the batters from the mound.

In the bottom of the second, the Fighting Scots got two more runs on another solo homer and a groundout to make it 7-0.

Similar to the third inning, Wooster was able to earn another home run off their first batter of the frame to go up 8-0.

John Carroll did not give up the fight as they were able to score three runs in the top of the fourth to break their scoreless streak.

Justin Hanley homered to left field to plate two runs while Bennett Cavaretta scored on a groundout to make it 8-3.

However, Wooster snuffed out any Blue Streak momentum as they scored three more times in the fourth on a double and a homer to take an 11-3 advantage.

Alex Gasper added a second home run for the Fighting Scots to score the final two runs for Wooster, while Daugenti hit a solo shot to right field in the seventh.

Joe Smith struggled in his second start of the season as he gave up seven runs in just 1.1 innings pitched.

Hanley and Daugenti also each had two hits for JCU.

Game Two
John Carroll found their stride after game one as they scored at least two runs in every inning except in the final frame.

Daugenti and Matt Springer started the scoring barrage with RBI singles to take a 2-0 lead.

Ben Surman recorded a two RBI double while Hanley scored one on a two bagger each in the following frame to take a 5-0 advantage.

Springer added a two run home run in the third, and Wooster got on the board in the bottom frame on a groundout.

However, the Blue Streak offense continued to roll as Surman and Springer each brought home a run in the fourth to go up 9-1.

Surman again delivered with an RBI double in the fifth, and Hanley then scored Surman on a single to go up by 10.

The Fighting Scots scored in the fifth and seventh innings, but Joe Olsavsky brought home JCU's final two runs on a single up the middle.

Surman led the team with a career-high four RBIs while Springer tied a career-best with four as well.

Hanley also went 3-for-5 with two RBIs, which moved the senior into the top 10 in program history in the latter category.

Andrew Steele pitched well in his start, going three strong innings while only allowing two hits and one run.

Jamon Higley also had career-highs with two innings pitched and four strikeouts for JCU.

The Blue Streaks will be back in action on Thursday, May 5 as they take on Case Western in what is scheduled to be their final home game of the season. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
