UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Garrett Clark is one of a kind.

As a sprinter, Clark is undoubtedly one of the best speedsters in recent memory. And now, he can count himself amongst the premier students in program history.

Garrett Clark has been heralded as a 2021-22 CoSIDA First Team Academic All-America® selection.

Clark makes his second straight first team appearance on the CoSIDA Men's Track & Field / Cross Country Academic All-America® squad. In doing so, Clark becomes a historic figure, as he's the first men's runner in school history to be a two-time honoree. And overall, it's only the third CoSIDA Academic All-American pick in program history.

Clark catapulted his way into the record books as a senior. The Aurora native shattered a bevy of school records this year. The crowning achievement was one of his first of this calendar year. Clark, Ian Pierson, Caleb Correia, and Alex Phillip combined for an NCAA Division III record in the Distance Medley Relay, with a remarkable time of 9:41.56.

The Accounting major's success continued throughout indoor season. Clark shattered the 60m mark with a time of 6.89 and busted down the 200m record with a time of 21.66. In 2020, Clark also clocked the 400m record at 49.18.

During outdoor season, his excellent journey kept on rolling. Clark captured the 200m record with a time of 20.96 and worked with Mick Doyle, Mark Zahren, and Jimmy Kartsonas to do the trick in the 4x100 relay with a time of 40.46. At the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, Clark won the Harrison Dillard Outstanding Sprint Athlete Award after a show-stopping two-day meet.

At the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, Clark capped off a marvelous senior season. The Walsh Jesuit alumnus secured All-American finishes in both the 200m and the 4x100 relay. It was quite the showing for Clark with the two fifth-place finishes.

After graduating in May with his Accounting degree with a 3.87 GPA, Clark plans to stick around to pursue his graduate degree while running for the Blue Streaks.

With the 2021-22 CoSIDA Academic All-America® sport selections complete, the Blue Streaks finish with five Academic All-Americans. John Carroll ties last year's record of five in a single academic year. This also marks the first time the Blue Streaks can claim three First Team Academic All-Americans in one season.

The Blue Streaks' success with Academic All-Americans is evidence of a program on the rise nationally. John Carroll has now claimed 10 Academic All-Americans in the past two years, just one less than the Blue Streaks tallied during the 2010s.
