Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats Baldwin Wallace

Mairin Dalziel was a member of both mixed relay winning teams and defeated three-time OAC champion Bella Ratino in the 500 freestyle.
BEREA, Ohio – In what was the final road dual meet of the season, the John Carroll's Women's Swimming & Diving Team defeated their crosstown rival Baldwin Wallace at the BW Natatorium, 157-45.
 
The victory also marked their 17th consecutive win over the Yellow Jackets, and JCU won all but one event.
 
In a rare mixed 200 medley relay with members of both men's and women's teams from each school, JCU went 1-2-3 with Liam McDonnell, Jonah Venos, Allie Geletka, and Mairin Dalziel's team winning with a time of 1:42.94.
 
Danielle Turi won the 1,000 freestyle at 11:52.41, while Madeline Jarosz finished right behind in second (12:08.52).
 
Freshman Mary Hoffman (2:00.84) placed first in the 200 free, with Gwyneth Hamilton (24.71), Anna Glass (25.58), and Maddie Panus (26.37) going 1-2-3 in the 50 free.
 
The Blue Streaks also won the gold in the 200 IM, with freshman Olivia Goodman clocking in at 2:16.83.
 
Turi (2:21.67) and Glass (2:24.67) finished first and second in the 200 butterfly, and went 1-2-3 in the 100 free led by Hamilton (54.28), Hoffman (55.01), and Panus (57.88).
 
Goodman won her second event of the evening in the 200 backstroke (2:18.01), and fellow freshman Dalziel (5:19.06) defeated three-time OAC champion Bella Ratino in the 500 freestyle by 16 seconds.
 
Bojena Gross closed out the individual events with a second place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:33.67), losing to BW's Tia Reed by just 0.66 seconds.
 
JCU closed out the night with the gold in the 200 mixed freestyle relay with Dalziel, Rachel Halapchuk, Michael Heller, and Owen Holm reaching a time of 1:33.87.

In the diving events, Catherine Steinwachs paced the way with 212.45 for first place followed by Sarah Hanlon (191.30) and Kathryn Visco (176.05).
 
The Blue Streaks will face Wilmington to close out the dual meet season on Saturday, January 28 for Senior Day at the Johnson Natatorium.  The meet is scheduled to start at 1pm.
