Men's Basketball Dashes Past Penn State Harrisburg at Susquehanna Tournament

SELINSGROVE, PA --  On a cloudy weekend afternoon, the Blue Streaks prepared for their second tournament of the young regular season at the Susquehanna Tip-Off tournament, with their first opponent being the Nittany Lions of Penn State Harrisburg.

In what was a physical matchup, the Blue and Gold imposed their will and came away with a great win, downing a talented Lions squad 83-63.

The first half was very physical and competitive on both sides. The Blue Streaks started off with 5 points in the first five minutes, having to fight for every bucket. The same could be said for the Nittany Lions, who also had trouble scoring early on. Eventually, both teams got it going, with the Blue Streaks maintaining the lead throughout the first period.

Chicone was on fire in the first half, making incredible passes on almost every possession, and put his teammates in great positions to score.

JCU managed to stretch their lead to double digits late in the half, but the Lions wouldn't go away, getting tough buckets to keep the game within reach.

The number 3 team in the country was not to be denied, however, and after Harrisburg reduced the Blue Streak to one with four and a half minutes remaining in the second half, the offense game alive, going on a 10-0 run to push the lead to 11. The Blue Streaks would be outscored 4-2 in the final 2 minutes of the half, giving them a solid 35-26 lead at the halftime break.

Both offenses managed to come alive in the second half. The scoring started to come quick for both squads, but not with any reduced physicality. The Blue and Gold put up 10 quick points in the first five minutes of the final frame, and the offense was off and running.

Having not trailed at any point during the game, JCU did not take their foot off the gas pedal, keeping the Nittany Lions' attempts to come back at bay.

The defense started to falter on both sides, especially with several breakdowns by the Blue Streaks, but impeccable rebounding created more possessions for the boys from University Heights, and they began to run away with the game.

The Nittany Lions simply could not keep up with the 48-point second half explosion by the #3 ranked team in the country, and the Blue Streaks cruised to a massive 20-point win against a talented PSU-Harrisburg squad.

The Luke's once again led the way for the Blue and Gold. Chicone had another, albeit quieter, great game. The Mentor native scored 19 points on six assists. Frazier had his second straight double-double, picking up 14 points and 11 boards.

The big men showed out in this one, as well. David Gentry and Will Yontek added 13 and 12 points, respectively, combining for 8 total rebounds. Henry Raynor also added 8 points and 8 rebounds. It was an all-around dominant effort by the Blue and Gold.

Tomorrow at 3 pm, the Blue Streaks are set to take on the River Hawks of Susquehanna, who eked out a victory 61-59 over Cabrini.
