CANTON -- The Ironman is on the short list for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

On Tuesday, London Fletcher was named a Semifinalist for the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Class of 2024.

Without a doubt, Fletcher's time is now.

The 1998 John Carroll graduate made an indelible impact first for the Blue Streaks, earning induction into the College Football Hall of Fame. A two-time All-American for the Blue Streaks, Fletcher stands as one of the best football players in 101 seasons of JCU Football. His list of collegiate accolades are lengthy, to be sure.

Fletcher's case for the Pro Football Hall of Fame is equally as compelling, if not even moreso.

After going undrafted in the 1998 NFL Draft, Fletcher became one of the NFL's best tacklers and most durable performers. Over the course of a 16-year career with the St. Louis Rams, Buffalo Bills, and Washington Redskins, Fletcher played in 256 games. Notably, Fletcher started 215 consecutive games, which is the most by a linebacker in NFL history.

Fletcher's stats are no less impressive. The Cleveland native finished his storied career with 1,384 solo tackles, second behind Ray Lewis, who was elected to the Hall of Fame in 2018. Fletcher also stands second all-time in total tackles with 2,039 (also behind Lewis). Additionally, Fletcher tallied 109 tackles for loss, 39 sacks, 23 interceptions, 96 passes defensed, 19 forced fumbles, and 12 fumble recoveries.

Fletcher is also a winner. He earned a ring, helping the Rams win Super Bowl XXXIV during the 1999 season, his second year in the league. During the 1999 campaign, the playmaking linebacker started all 19 games, and led the Rams with 7 solo and 9 total tackles in the Super Bowl win over the Tennessee Titans.

Fletcher is part of a group made up of 25 "Modern-Era" players, trimmed down from 173 nominees in September. The list of 25 semifinalists will be narrowed down to 15 players. The Hall of Fame's 50-person selection committee will name the Class of 2024 ahead of Super Bowl LVIII in February. The finalists will be enshrined next August.
