NUMBER ONE: Men's Basketball Stands Atop D3hoops.com Poll for the First Time

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – John Carroll Men's Basketball is atop the world of Division III hoops.

For the first time ever, the Blue Streaks are #1 in the country.

On Monday evening, D3hoops.com released the second Top 25 of the 2023-24 season. The Blue Streaks occupy the #1 spot in the poll.

"We aren't chasing numbers, we're only chasing championships," said Head Coach Pete Moran '08.

The Blue Streaks' highest previous ranking in the D3hoops.com was #2 prior to the 2009-10 campaign. John Carroll stood at #3 in both the preseason and week one polls at D3hoops.com.

Upheaval above John Carroll allowed the Blue Streaks to ascend to the top of the poll. Three top 5 teams, #1 UW-Whitewater, #2 Hampden-Sydney, and #4 Mount Union (all fantastic teams, the last two of which are on the slate for JCU), all lost for the first time this season after the opening poll of the campaign.

Meanwhile, the Blue Streaks stand perfect with a 5-0 record. John Carroll rocked its home opener on Saturday, defeating Ohio Northern, 89-65. JCU also outlasted a red-hot Baldwin Wallace team in Berea on Wednesday.

Fans of the Blue Streaks will have several opportunities to see the #1 team in action in the coming weeks. Next up at home is a matchup with Wilmington on Saturday, December 16. #7 Hampden-Sydney will come to town on Tuesday, December 19 at 2 pm in a highly anticipated showdown presented by Kaulig Companies.

John Carroll plays next on Saturday, heading to face Muskingum in a 2 pm tipoff.
