Men's Tennis Upended by Case Western Reserve

MAYFIELD, Ohio -- The early portion of the season is all about challenges for John Carroll Men's Tennis.

The Blue Streaks experienced one of the toughest tests you can face on Friday.

John Carroll did battle with Case Western Reserve on Friday afternoon at Mayfield Racquet Club, falling in a 9-0 decision. The Spartans carry a #2 ranking in NCAA Division III early in the spring season.

But that's not to say that the day was not without bright spots.

Anthony Markello and Kevin Wacnik put up a great fight at the #2 doubles spot, with an 8-2 loss.

Speaking of Markello, the freshman started out hot at #2 singles before his foe fired back for a 6-2, 6-0 win. Wacnik also fought hard in a 6-1, 6-2 loss.

The defeat drops the Blue Streaks to 0-4 on the year after the loss to the nationally ranked Spartans. The Blue & Gold are in action next in Florida for spring break.
