BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – After competing in 4 individual events (1 final) and 2 relays (1 final), the Blue Streaks stand in the top-10 after Day 1 of the NCAA Indoor T&F National Championships.

The day started with a strong run by Basheer Alramahi in the 400m prelims. On his 19th birthday, the freshman continued his stellar season with a time of 47.90 (4th place overall) to qualify for Saturday's final. This also marks a 0.58 second PR from his previous OAC Championship performance (48.48).

Caleb Correia competed next on the track for the Blue Streaks in the 800m prelims. In his first National Championship individual performance, he competed to a 14th place finish in a time of 1:54.12, missing out on qualifying for the finals.

Veteran sprinter Garrett Clark competed in the 200m preliminary dash after the 800m. He posted a time of 21.75 for an overall 10th place finish, just barely missing the finals.

After the 200m, the first final event of the day began for the Blue Streaks with none other than Alex Phillip in the 5000m. The St. Vincent-St. Mary continued his All-American streak, racing to a runner-up finish in his second-fastest ever 5k time of 13:52.29. Phillip is now a 7-time track & field All-American for the Blue Streaks.

The end of the 5000m runs marked the start of the Blue Streaks' relay team competitions. The 4x400m preliminary consisting of Garrett Clark (48.23), Tyler Gast (49.38), Basheer Alramahi (47.55), and Dustin Horner (49.93) fought to a time of 3:15.09, placing them 7th overall and advancing to tomorrow's final.

The last event of the day for the Blue Streaks was the Distance Medley Relay.

In his first ever National Meet, freshman Max Grillo led off the 1200 in a time of 3:03.16. Grillo handed off to senior and Outdoor All-American Mick Doyle, who then split a 49.02 400m leg.

Doyle then passed the baton to the Indoor All-American Caleb Correia for the third 800m leg. After running the open 800m preliminary prior in the day, Correia still posted a split of 1:53.29 before handing off to anchor Ethan Domitrovich

A part of last year's All-American indoor DMR (1600 leg) and outdoor steeplechase All-American, Domitrovich split a heroic time of 4:06.04 in the 1600m leg. This placed the Blue Streaks eighth (overall time 9:51.50) and earned the quartet All-American honors.

However, the work for the Blue Streaks is far from complete.

Tomorrow, Alramahi and Phillip will compete in the 400m (3:25 CST) and 3000m (4:40 CST) final individual events. Additionally, the 4x400 crew will compete in the last event of the meet at 5:15 CST.
