BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The John Carroll Men's Track and Field team made program history today.

The Blue Streaks' sixth-place team finish today (26 overall points) marks the best finish in program history, as they tied for 6th place with four separate teams (Carnegie Mellon, MIT, and Ithaca) in 2022.

The day started off with none other than Basheer Alramahi in the 400m dash final. The freshman standout gritted to a third-place finish, earning his first All-American honors and a shiny new PR of 47.79 seconds.

Veteran Alex Phillip toed the line an hour and fifteen minutes later in JCU's only distance event for the day, the 3000m final. Phillip got out and sat in fourth place for the majority of the race, but then made a move into second right before the 7-minute mark. He closed the last 800m of the race in an impressive 2:02 to earn National Runner-Up and All-American Track & Field Honors for the eighth time in his career.

The last event of the 2023 D-III National Championships for the Blue Streaks was none other than the last event of the day, the 4x400m Relay final.

Switching up the order from yesterday, Mick Doyle, Garrett Clark, Tyler Gast, and Basheer Alramahi competed in the event (in that order), placing sixth overall to achieve All-American Honors.

The JCU quartet's overall time of 3:13.33 was the seventh fastest time in DIII Indoor National Championships history. Garrett Clark's and Basheer Alramahi's splits of 46.757 and 47.124 were the fastest two splits in the entire field.

"The guys continued to show up at the highest level at arguably the most competitive National Championship in D-III history," Head Coach Kyle Basista said. "We had a good mix of experience along with newcomers and everyone stepped up to do their job. To be sixth for a second consecutive year is a huge honor and a testament to these guy's continuous hard work. We look to continue this momentum into the outdoor season and are excited for what's to come."
