Men's Track & Field Claims Victories at Oberlin's Bob Kahn Invitational

OBERLIN, Ohio – This weekend's Bob Kahn Invitational was a bridge between March and April for John Carroll Men's Track & Field, as outdoor season enters a critical month of preparation for May's championships. 

The Bob Kahn Invitational at Oberlin College provided the perfect opportunity to fire into April with momentum.

The Blue Streaks seized the days, with conquests in the hammer throw, shot put, 4x100, and 400m hurdles. 

RESULTS

Zach Szafarski put on a show in the hammer throw, notching a top toss of 53.57m for the crown. Noah Schroeder trailed closely with a mark of 50.92m for second. Matthew Russo tallied 10th (37.62m) and Alec Gorman tabbed 15th with a PR of 34.20m. JCU also did well in the discus on Saturday, as Szafarski led the way with a second-place finish of 42.15m. Russo followed closely again at 37.70m, with Gorman also looking nice with a throw of 33.63m. 

But the throwers' crowning achievement came in the shot put, with a 1-2-3 finish. This time, Russo led the charge with a winning toss of 13.95m. Schroeder finished second again with a throw of 13.18m, while Szafarski rounded it out in third at 12.87m. 

Tyler Gast made his debut in the javelin throw to rave early reviews. The Olmsted Falls grad snagged second with a mark of 44.46m. Alec Gorman followed with a tally of 34.72m and Tanner Francis also hit top-15 with a mark of 28.00m. 

A trio of Blue Streaks did well in the long jump. Jimmy Kartsonas (6.34m), Daylen Glaze (6.16m), and Corey Minton (6.04m) all appeared in the top eight. 

In the 4x100 relay, the Blue Streaks won the day. Dustin Horner, Garrett Clark, Basheer Alramahi, and Jimmy Kartsonas combined for a time of 42.62. Clark followed up the effort by conquering the competition in the 100m with a time of 10.76. Kartsonas nipped at his heels in second at 10.94. Gast (11.30) and Alramahi (11.33) also tabbed top-10 times. 

Mick Doyle reigned triumphantly in the 400m hurdles, claiming the title with a time of 56.13. Victor Ononogbo joined him in the top 10 with a time of 1:04.71. 

Gast completed his busy weekend in the 200m finals, snagging second with a time of 22.69. Cam Klauke and Dustin Horner also clocked in 22-second times of 22.87 and 22.90 for fourth and fifth, respectively. Brody Hanlon also got top 10 with a time of 23.77.
