Men's Lacrosse Dashes Past Otterbein in Home Conquest

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- On a beautiful Wednesday evening, the John Carroll Men's Lacrosse team welcomed the Cardinals of Otterbein University for a midweek Ohio Athletic Conference matchup.

Offense came early and often for the Blue Streaks, and a 15-goal first half offensive explosion allowed JCU to cruise to a 22-3 blowout win over the Cardinals.

The first quarter of play started off slow with no goals in the first five minutes, but the Blue Streaks were not about to allow for a slow start. Six different players scored the first six goals of the game, getting everyone involved on the action, jumping out to a quick 6-0 lead.

Max Cook, Morgan Morrell, Josh Lombardo, Colin Morrissey, Matt Berdysiak, and Aidan Dugan all got in on the fun, providing a huge offensive boost in the first. The Cardinals had their opportunities to score, but the home team managed to set up a strong front and hold them scoreless in the first.

The Blue Streaks wasted no time getting back on the scoreboard in the second, as Morrell and Morrissey scored two goals within the first two minutes to increase the Blue Streak lead to eight. At the halfway point of the quarter, Ian Venard and Tanner Gill-Snow chipped in to increase the lead to 10-0, marking 8 different players for JCU who scored goals in the first half alone.

The Cardinals countered with a quick goal to get on the board for the first time, but Morrell and Morrissey snagged hat tricks by scoring their third goals to push the lead to 11 at 12-1. The final 8 minutes of the frame saw three more Carroll goals, with Alexander Sykas becoming the ninth different player to score for JCU. After 30 minutes of play, the Blue Streaks had a commanding 15-1 lead.

The third quarter of play carried a much slower pace for both teams. The Blue Streaks scored five goals, all of which by players who already scored previously, and the Cardinals scored two goals of their own, making the score 20-3 at the end of three.
The final period started slow, with neither team scoring a goal for the first seven and a half minutes, and in the second half of the period, Chandler Bankey and Vinny Fiorella became the tenth and eleventh players to score goals for the Blue Streaks. The final seconds of the quarter dwindled away, and JCU cruised to a huge 22-3 win.

Scoring came from everywhere for the Blue Streaks tonight. Morgan Morrell and Tanner Gill-Snow each scored 4 goals, and Colin Morrissey tallied three, marking the leading scorers amongst 11 Blue Streak players who got a ball into the net.

In addition, all three goalies got time tonight, with Jon Gaglio, Jeremy Urban, and Oliver Hammond all making appearances.

Looking ahead, the Blue Streaks will play host to the Marietta College Pioneers this Saturday.
