Senior Day Celebration: Blue Streaks Breeze Past Wilmington at Home

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- Senior Day in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center for the Blue Streaks is always a great day, and today was no different.

The John Carroll Volleyball team recognized senior student-athletes Marissa Lynch and Jessica Liddle and assistant Ava O'Neill today in before the match against Wilmington

In the series history against Wilmington, JCU entered on a 6-game winning streak, and continued those winning ways today. Today, the Blue Streaks shut down Wilmington in 3 sets, 25-15, 25-11, and 25-13.

John Carroll's offense was on fire today, playing hard for their seniors. The Blue Streaks had a strong start to the first set with a big lead. They stayed in front with impressive kills from Marissa Lynch, Natalie Glowe, and Hailey Williams. Even though the Blue Streaks sustained a major lead, on the game-winning point, the Quakers fought hard and earned 5 points in a row. Despite this comeback, John Carroll was able to close out the first set, 25-15.

Headed into the second set, the Blue Streaks came out with intensity once again, determined to win this set as well. Just like the first set, the Blue Streaks created a large gap between themselves and the Quakers. JCU kept this lead the entire set, holding Wilmington at 11 points. Tess Humphrey stood out in her play, getting impressive digs. John Carroll played well as a team and won the second set, 25-11.

In the third and final set, the Quakers were able to keep up with John Carroll in the beginning unlike the other two sets. They took their only lead of the game 4-3, but John Carroll quickly shut them down and rolled in the third set, 25-13.

It was a fantastic game coming off of a loss yesterday against Carnegie Mellon. Humphrey stood out in her play with 11 digs as well as Olivia Mogyardy, with 15. The offense was very balanced today with Glowe (15), Williams (6), and Lynch (8) each having multiple key kills.

Lynch had an impressive comeback game today and mentioned how "bringing high intensity and energy helped our team come out on top to get a great win." Hailey Nicholson also played well, with 3 service aces.
