Men's Tennis Drops Indoor Home Opener to Walsh

MAYFIELD – For the first time of the spring, John Carroll Men's Tennis hosted a match in Northeast Ohio today.

The Blue Streaks welcomed Walsh University to Mayfield Village Racquet Club on Friday afternoon in a battle with a Division II foe.

John Carroll did not shrink from the challenge, but came out on the short end of an 8-0 defeat.

Doubles play saw some close, intense action. The narrowest match was the #2 doubles contest, as Dylan Westmeyer and Griffin Millspaugh lost by the closest possible margin in an 8-6 defeat.

Anthony Markello and Luis Wentz put up a similarly strong fight at #3 doubles in an 8-5 loss. Logan Langovsky and Grant Sarnowski lost an 8-2 affair.

Westmeyer looked good, continuing his JCU debut. The grad student lost a 6-3, 6-1 dual at #3 singles. The most exciting match was #2 singles, as Grant Sarnowski celebrated plenty as he made some fantastic plays. But his efforts came up just short in a 7-5, 7-5 heartbreaker.

Millspaugh, a Louisville native who's looked great thus far in his junior year, was in the throes of a second set war, 6-5, before the match was called due to court time.

Next up for the Blue Streaks is spring break in beautiful Hilton Head, SC. A full schedule will be released soon.
