Men's Wrestling Rolls Past Quakers on Saturday Evening

WILMINGTON – With a healthier lineup, John Carroll Wrestling took care of business quickly after a long road trip south on Saturday.

The Blue Streaks tallied an Ohio Athletic Conference victory, storming past the Quakers of Wilmington in convincing fashion.

John Carroll tallied a 51-0 victory to even out to 3-3 against conference competition.

The visitors immediately constructed a lead thanks to forfeit wins at 133 and 141 pounds by Ty Daugherty and Americo Milani. Kyle Bizjak earned a win in the contested match of the day at 149. The Aurora native conquered his foe in a one-sided technical fall, 15-0, that concluded in the first period.

Patrick McGraw triumphantly returned to the mat at 157. The fifth-year Streak notched a quick pin in 1:29, showing no signs of rust while propelling JCU to a 23-0 advantage. Adam Salek also discharged his foe with ease, earning a first-period tech fall by a score of 17-2.

Like McGraw, Daniel Devera got back to competition for the first time in a bit after an injury. The Parma native outmuscled his opponent at 174, utilizing a number of near falls to secure a victory by tech fall, with a final score of 19-2. Jesse Kanatzar (184) and Bear Horgan (197) accepted forfeits to up the score further.

Thomas Lunt provided an authoritative conquest to conclude the dual. The sophomore started out hot by building a 9-2 lead, then turned and pinned his opponent. His win took 1:22 to achieve. 

Following this win, the Blue Streaks look ahead to next Sunday, as the Blue & Gold will host the John Carroll Open.
