Men's Lacrosse Shows Fight But Can't Dig Out of Early Hole at Grove City

GROVE CITY, PA – The second half comeback unfortunately was not enough for the John Carroll Men's Lacrosse team, as they dropped a tough one to Grove City College, 13-11.

With the defeat, the Blue Streaks drop to 1-2 on the young season, with the losses by a combined three goals.

The Blue Streaks' defense in the first quarter of play kept the game in balance, only allowing three goals by the Wolverines against JCU's solo goal from Braden Zarek. Tides would quickly change in the second quarter, beginning with a goal from Grove City's Kobi Bui within the first minute.

JCU's deficit began to balloon, reaching up to six by the end of the half. Josh Lambardo was able to find the back of the net early in the second quarter, but John Carroll trailed 8-2 heading into the third quarter.

The woes that plagued the Blue Streaks offense in the first half quickly disappeared after halftime, thanks to Lombardo scoring his second goal of the night.

Back and forth, the offenses traded goals, until just under six minutes left when JCU tallied three goals from Alexander Sykas, Vinny Fiorella, and Colin Morrissey in a two-minute span. Sean Keane capped off the quarter with his second goal to propel John Carroll to a four-goal swing and trimmed the deficit to 10-8.

Like the second quarter, Bui led off the final 15 minutes of play with another goal, but was quickly followed up by Morgan Morrell. Keane completed the hat trick three minutes later, making it a one score game with just over eight minutes to play.

However, the Blue Streak magic was shut down by Zachary Hougan, who put the game out of reach with his back-to-back goals late in the match. A quick score by Zarek gave some life, but it did not result in any more production.

Keane led the team with 4 points. Lucas Bell topped the team with 3 caused turnovers, while Morrissey stood atop the statsheet with 5 groundballs.

Next up, John Carroll is set to host Denison University on Wednesday, March 20.
