Women's Lacrosse Rolls Past Franciscan in Tuesday Night Road Win

STEUBENVILLE, Ohio -- John Carroll Women's Lacrosse kept up the hot streak against Franciscan University, winning on the road by a score of 22-3.

The Blue Streaks found the back of the net 22 times, courtesy of 9 different Blue Streaks. 

With the third straight victory, JCU advances to 4-3 on the year.

In the second minute, Senior Kendall Gessner found the back of the net thanks to a pass from Riley Knapp. From there, the momentum did not stop. Knapp, Gessner, and Kathleen Cagney found the net to get the lead up to 4-0.

The Blue Streaks did not stop firing into the back of the net. At the end of the first quarter, the Blue Streaks were up 10-2. Olivia Hanulak found the back of the net and Cagney and Gessner made the lead go to eight after 15 minutes of action. 

In the second quarter, Vivian Rung tallied her first goal of the night, and Madison Polaski scored her first of the night on the man-up with a minute remaining in the half. After 30 minutes of action, the Blue Streaks were up 15-2

In the third quarter, Mary Grace Godleski became the first Blue Streak to score in the second half. Annalise Caulfield, Gessner, and Godleski scored in the third quarter to extend the lead to 19-3.

In the fourth quarter, Godleski scored a pair of goals, and freshman Vanessa Stevens was the ninth Blue Streak to find the back of the net. 

Gessner led the squad with a career-high 7 goals. The grad student added 3 assists for another career high in 10 points. Godleski finished with a season-best 4 goals, adding 2 ground balls. Jill McDonnell was a star in the conquest, leading the team in both ground balls (7) and caused turnovers (6).

In the net, Josephine Lawler was credited with the win. Rachel Kroeger and Olivia Munding also found time in the back of the net. Munding picked up three saves on three shots, shutting down the Barons in the fourth quarter.

The Blue Streaks will stay on the road to play their Ohio Athletic Conference opener in Ada, Ohio to play Ohio Northern University on March 23 at 1 pm.
