Women's Tennis Falters at Ohio Northern in First OAC Loss

ADA –  Despite strong fight, last year's Ohio Athletic Conference runners-up overpowered John Carroll Women's Tennis.

The Blue Streaks battled well, but ultimately succumbed to the Polar Bears, 7-2.

The defeat marked John Carroll's first conference loss of the campaign.

The Blue Streaks found themselves in an early hole after doubles. Ohio Northern won both the No. 3 and No. 2 doubles matches to start things off. Thankfully, the Blue Streaks got on the board with a bigtime 8-6 conquest at No. 1 doubles.

Madeline Kavenagh and Sarah Sgambati worked hard and emerged victorious at the top doubles spot with a narrow 8-6 conquest.

The Polar Bears outlasted solid starts by JCU to get the matches needed to win singles. Kavenagh fell by a 6-3 set score in the opener, then ran out of steam in a 6-1 defeat at No. 1. Felicity Kolb looked good in the early goings, only losing 6-4 in the opening set, but she also couldn't mount a comeback.

Caroline Chandler got the lone singles win of the contest for JCU. The Iowa City native fired up a 6-3, 6-4 victory to get JCU on the board.

The Blue Streaks will return to action on Tuesday, with a trip to Grove City in the works.
