Men's Tennis Buries Yellow Jackets in Home Rivalry Victory

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On a very cold day at the Short Family Tennis Center, the Blue Streaks showed their grit.

John Carroll Men's Tennis captured a key rivalry victory, rolling past the Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets, 8-1.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks advance to 4-1 on the year in Ohio Athletic Conference play with one contest left to play.

The Blue Streaks swept the doubles matchups, going in order with three great victories.

Logan Langovsky and Grant Sarnowski kicked things off with an 8-4 win. Anthony Markello and Phillip Gorun kept things going with an 8-6 victory at No. 2 doubles. And finally, Dylan Westmeyer and Griffin Millspaugh capped things off with an 8-6 win, eliciting some nice cheers from the shivering faithful assembled for JCU.

Millspaugh drew first blood for John Carroll in singles play, sending the Yellow Jackets to the brink, courtesy of a dominant 6-0, 6-3 win.

Langovksy then wrapped up the rivalry triumph by cruising at first singles. The Green native corralled a 6-1, 6-0 decision to secure the team win for the hosts.

Westmeyer added to the margin with a 6-2, 6-2 winner. Baldwin Wallace got on the scoreboard with a No. 2 singles win, but that would be the only victory of the day for the visitors from Berea.

Markello continued his fine sophomore season by performing well in front of his classmates. As his friends cheered him on, the star No. 3 singles player rolled for a 6-2, 6-2 win. Phillip Gorun was the last one to finish, as his teammates lined up to watch.

The victory marked John Carroll's 11th straight in the series history against the Yellow Jackets.

The Blue Streaks will now look ahead to the final regular season contest of the season at Otterbein on Saturday, with seeding for the OAC Tournament on the line.
