Baseball Falls in Road Game at Ohio Wesleyan

DELAWARE, Ohio – In a Thursday showdown of future conference foes, Ohio Wesleyan got past John Carroll.

A 6-run fourth inning for the Battling Bishops proved to be too much for the visitors to overcome.

The loss leads into a lengthy homestand upcoming for the Blue Streaks.

The Blue & Gold quickly got a pair of runners in scoring position in the first, with a Sean Connolly single and an Erik Daugenti walk. Connor Mayle made the Battling Bishops pay, with a 2-run double to left field.

After Jamon Higley provided two scoreless innings to start, Ohio Wesleyan managed to scratch a run against Samuel Basso. And with two on and one out, the bullpen got active again, but the Battling Bishops didn't mind. After a walk, OWU clapped a bases-clearing double to snag the lead. By the time the dust settled, the hosts enjoyed a 7-2 lead.

OWU added another in the sixth, which would be important, as JCU looked to stage a comeback. The visitors got three runs across in the eighth frame. Carson Balfour took one for the team with an RBI hit by pitch, Mayle tallied an RBI single, and Harmon got one more home with a sacrifice fly.

The tying run reached the plate in the ninth for JCU, but OWU managed to get out of the jam thanks to a double play.

Mayle, Persichetti, and Jordan Suvak all finished with multi-hit days for JCU.
