Men's Tennis Succumbs to Ohio Northern in OAC Tournament Championship

LIMA – Despite the team's best efforts, John Carroll Men's Tennis could not stop the Ohio Northern juggernaut.

The Polar Bears batted away the Blue Streaks in the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship on Saturday, 5-2.

Top-seeded ONU secures the program's third straight title, downing JCU for the second time in three years in the championship match.

Rain pushed the contest indoors to Westwood Tennis Center in Lima, with a later start time than anticipated due to rain stopping the women's title match in progress. Despite the delay, John Carroll started off on a good note.

Logan Langovsky and Grant Sarnowski teamed up one last time together, and thrived. The senior combo put together an excellent 8-2 conquest.

But the next two doubles matches went to the hosts. The No. 3 doubles contest finished next, as Dylan Westmeyer and Griffin Millspaugh battled valiantly to an 8-5 loss. Anthony Markello and Phillip Gorun accepted an 8-2 loss at No. 2 doubles.

Langovsky evened things out for JCU with a fantastic start to singles, as the Green native roared for a 6-2, 6-2 victory at the top singles spot. But that would be it for the good news for JCU.

Gorun dropped the No. 3 bout, 3-6, 0-6. And then, Westmeyer lost at No. 6, 1-6, 4-6. That sent JCU into desperation mode, needing to win all the remaining matches.

And alas, it was not meant to be. Sarnowski lost a 3-6, 1-6 battle at No. 2 to end it.

The Blue Streaks conclude the campaign with a 10-9 record overall. There is plenty to be proud of this season for Walt Oden's team, and the future remains bright with plenty of exciting young stars back next season.
