Offense Breaks Out in Road Non-Conference Win for Women's Soccer

NEW WILMINGTON, Pa. – The road has often been unkind to the Blue Streaks this season, including a shutout loss in each of the last two matches.

Not so tonight.

John Carroll Women's Soccer dominated Westminster College from start to finish, scoring a season-high four goals in a fantastic 4-0 road conquest.

The Blue Streaks were revved up from the get go. In the ninth minute, the Blue Streaks managed a promising opportunity. JCU centered the ball towards the crease, which was tabbed away but only so far, as Lucy Altieri won possession. She fired a shot right at the goalie for the first shot on goal of the game.

In the 12th minute, the Blue Streaks did the trick. Meredith Coloian slotted a ball ahead for Abby Smith, and the junior did the rest. The Avon native coaxed the goalie out of the net, and tabbed the ball to the right of the goalkeeper's foot, finding the low-right corner of the net.

The Blue & Gold continued to test out the Westminster defenses. Emily Patrzyk and Alli Malinky both marked down shots on goal, but the Titans fought them off. But not for too.

In Madyson Rosado's second game back after missing a couple matches, the senior made her presence known in a big way. The star collected a centering pass from Abby Smith and warded off Westminster defenders. In an absolute rocket of a shot, the North Ridgeville native blasted the ball top center for an insurance goal.

Not resting on their laurels, the Blue Streaks kept the train rolling. In the 40th minute, Lucy Kuerbis sent a wonderful through ball ahead up the right side. Taylor Kuhn tracked it down and fired a shot from a difficult angle. The goalkeeper made the initial save, but Emma West rushed in and immediately fired home the rebound.

And even after that, the Blue Streaks did not stop pushing. The visitors notched two more shots on goal before the halftime horn.

Once again in the second half, John Carroll knocked on the door before breaking it down. Patrzyk first blasted a shot that was blocked. The ball bounced back to near midfield, but JCU kept up the pressure. Madyson Rosado settled a pass in, and clipped the ball left and ahead to Patrzyk. The junior took care of the rest, firing home JCU's fourth tally of the day.

The Blue Streaks continued to fire forward on offense, but the hosts stemmed the damage.

JCU finished with a wide advantage in shots, 25-13, including in shots on goal, 15-3. Madeline Martin kept the Titans off the board for 73 minutes, while Madison Skeese got her first action, finishing out the match strong.
