Wooster Scores Late to Defeat Blue Streaks in Offensive Battle

Women's Soccer Close Out Nonconference Play with Loss to Wooster

WOOSTER – The final stretch of non-conference action followed this pattern for John Carroll: Blowout win, close loss, blowout win, close loss.

The out of conference action concluded on Saturday for the Blue Streaks by concluding the pattern.

John Carroll conceded a late goal at the College of Wooster in a matinee match, finishing non-conference with a 4-5 mark.

Fast and furious from the start, the future North Coast Athletic Conference foes traded jabs from the get-go. The Fighting Scots only needed two minutes and 20 seconds to get on the board, as Hallie Krzys fired home her third score of the year for Wooster.

But John Carroll didn't take too long to respond. In the 14th minute, Meredith Coloian fired ahead a nice backdoor pass to Abby Smith. The Bay native fired a shot on net, which the goalie got a good piece of, but it bounced up and behind her. Emily Patrzyk was in the right place at the right time and tapped in the equalizer.

As the one minute read occurred by the PA announcer, the Blue Streaks were eager to avoid the tie entering the half. With the ball on the foot of Bella Carcelli, she was able to find Patrzyk. On the foot of the junior, she was able to find Sara Gennuso, who found the back of the net for her first goal of the season.

Heading into the half, the Blue Streaks dominated the stats sheet, as they outshot Wooster 10-4. They hoped to find this stride into the second half, but were cut short by the Fighting Scots.

Not even 10 minutes into the half, the Blue Streaks tripped up Wooster in the box, and the center ref pointed to the center spot for a penalty kick. Hallie Krzys was sent to face Madeline Martin for the penalty. She was able to find the net past a diving goalie, and the game was tied at two.

With the second goal, the Fighting Scots continued their offensive surge. They would put 13 shots on Martin in the second half, but her defensive efforts were strong between the sticks.

Enter the 88th minute, as the Scots are running out of chances to secure the three points for the team. Krzys was dashing across the pitch and sent a pass over to Alyssa Lubba who found the net to gain a 3-2 lead late in the game.

Unfortunately, the Blue Streaks had no time left, as John Carroll would fall on the road against the Fighting Scots.

With the loss, John Carroll falls to 4-5 in non conference play. This will be the last non conference play of the 2024 campaign for Michael Marich and the women's soccer team.

Next Up
The Blue Streaks will have a break before the start of Ohio Athletic Conference play, as John Carroll faces Muskingum University on October 5 at 2 pm at Don Shula Stadium.
