The star wideout is racking up big numbers this season for the Blue Streaks

CLEVELAND – As John Carroll's star receiver piles up stats, his first weekly accolade of the season has arrived.

Tyren Montgomery is the North Coast Athletic Conference's Offensive Player of the Week for Football.

Montgomery's honor follows what has been an impressive season to date, most recently with his effort vs. Wittenberg.

The Woodlands, Texas native has been lighting up opposing defenses all season, and this week was no different. Montgomery hauled in 12 receptions for 122 yards, tying a season high for catches. Montgomery notched 2 touchdowns, his second multi-touchdown effort of the year. Montgomery's 12 receptions are tied for third-most in a game in JCU history. His work helped the Blue Streaks breeze by the Wittenberg Tigers, 44-7.

On the season, Montgomery has totaled 47 catches for 632 yards and 7 touchdowns. The graduate student leads the NCAC in both receptions and yards, ranking tied for second with 7 touchdowns. Montgomery ranks in the top 25 nationally in receiving yards, receiving touchdowns, receiving yards per game, and receptions per game.

Montgomery is climbing the JCU leaderboards, as well. The star wideout now leapfrogged into a tie for third in receiving touchdowns all-time at JCU with 24 alongside Larry Holmes. Montgomery now ranks ninth in career receiving yards with 1,703, surpassing Joseph Konrad (1,681), John Priestap (1,666), and Lane Robilotto (1,616).

Up next for Montgomery and the Blue Streaks is a season-defining showdown. The #14/15 Blue Streaks head to face #9/11 DePauw University on Saturday in Greencastle, Indiana with plenty of playoff implications at stake.
