Blue Streaks Fall Short Against Lycoming College On Senior Night

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS - After an astonishing comeback 3-2 win against Penn State Behrend, the John Carroll Blue Streaks return to Don Shula stadium looking to extend their winning record for Senior Night against the Lycoming College Warriors.

Today's matchup saw a reunion of a new rivalry. The first time John Carroll and Lycoming met was last year in 2024 where the game ended in a 0-0 tie. Both teams were determined to make a mark on that empty score sheet, coming into kickoff with fierce determination.

After a hard fought battle, the John Carroll Blue Streaks went down 2-3 after a late goal from Lycoming.

The first half saw both teams starting strong and fast, battling for dominance of possession. The ball moved quickly between feet, never staying with one team for long.

The Warriors kept heavy pressure on goalkeeper Brenden Moher, forward Christian Wooblay keeping the ball in the box and attempting a header deflected out of the redzone.

The Blue Streaks answered with their own press down the field. Senior Andrew Massucci looked to score but too much force sent the ball over the net. Zalan Onodi, a first year, put a shot on goal that was stopped by Warrior Jace Bennett.

The board remained scoreless until the 26th minute when Christian Wooblay tipped the ball towards the net while Brenden Moher came forward to defend, putting Lycoming up 0-1. His goal was followed by a yellow card after celebrating along the John Carroll bench.

Beginning the second half down by one, John Carroll rushed to dominate the field. Second year Dylan Halm took a strong shot on goal which was deflected and a free kick at the 20-yard-line saw a near goal for Andrew Massucci that bounced off the post enough to be redirected out of bounds.

At the 52 minute mark, Lycoming junior Aidan Stillman provided an assist to Owen Magee. Magee put the ball top right and a second goal on the board for Lycoming.

Not willing to go down without a fight, the Blue and Gold brought a powerful comeback attempt. A shot by Patrick Bohan was deflected and a handball by Warrior Alex Sincevich resulted in a penalty kick opportunity for John Carroll.

The initial penalty was taken by Andrew Massucci which was blocked by goalkeeper Jace Bennett. Yet an early jump off of the line by the goalie resulted in a retake, giving Dylan Halm the chance to put the first goal on the board for John Carroll.

With the chance to tie the game within arms reach, the Blue Streaks stayed strong in their defense, keeping the ball out of the box and deflecting a shot attempt by Lycoming's Carter Block.

It was Dylan Halm that tied the game 2-2. In the 70th minute, he scored unassisted, putting the ball in the low left corner of the net.

Not wanting to end their second meeting with another tie, both teams stepped up to vigorously fight for another goal. After multiple goal and corner kicks giving both team opportunities, the final goal of the game was scored at the 80th minute mark by Leandro Cruz, assisted by Alex Sincevich and Carter Block.

The Blue Streaks fought back for the final 10 minutes of the game. Dylan Halm sent the ball skimming over the top of the net and in the last 60 seconds of the game, a concluding shot by Zalan Onodi was caught by the opposing keeper.

While the game ended with a loss, the Blue Streaks put on a dynamic performance showcasing the talent of their long-standing seniors and fresh underclassmen.
