Case Western Reserve Overwhelms Women's Soccer in Home Opener

The Spartans scored early and set the tone for a one-sided affair

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The home opener posed quite the challenge for John Carroll Women's Soccer, as consistent national qualifier Case Western Reserve University arrived at Don Shula Stadium.

Having scored 13 goals in its first two matches, the Spartans flexed their muscles again, burying the Blue Streaks in impressive fashion.

John Carroll dropped a 6-0 decision to the Spartans on Wednesday evening.

Case Western Reserve caught JCU unawares in the early going, finding the back of the net in the second minute to break the ice. And once the ice broke, the deluge began.

While Emily Patrzyk enjoyed a nice chance for John Carroll, it was the Spartans to score next. In the 16th minute, a strong play forward with a pair of nice passes led to an insurance goal for the Spartans.

In the 23rd minute, the Spartans scored a stunning goal. Case Western Reserve sent a pinpoint cross from right to left to the back post, finishing with a perfect tap-in.

Continuing to pepper the Blue Streaks, the Spartans broke through again in the 29th minute, sneaking in a goal low-right for a 4-0 advantage.

Madison Skeese checked into the game as the netminder for the second half, the sophomore making her first appearance of the campaign and fifth of her career.

The Spartans got on the board in the second half with a shot from deep in the 51st, as the visitors made JCU pay for a couple misdirected passes.

CWRU kept up the pressure and left no doubt in the end.
