Strong Start Pushes JCU Past Covenant

MARYVILLE, Tenn. – The longest roadtrip of the season yielded strong results for John Carroll Women's Soccer.

For the second time in as many days, the Blue Streaks earned a victory.

John Carroll netted a pair of first-half goals to storm past Covenant College of Georgia, 2-0.

After Madeline Martin turned away a couple Covenant chances, the Blue Streaks enjoyed most of the chances the rest of the half.

In the eighth minute, the Blue Streaks struck first. Andrea Quintero Delgado found the back of the net for her first collegiate goal. The Las Vegas native right-footed a shot low center after moving around the keeper. Meredith Coloian played the ball through to the first year to make it possible.

In the 12th minute, a Covenant handball gave the Blue Streaks a golden opportunity to add an early insurance goal. Meredith Coloian was all too eager to take advantage of the opportunity, firing home her first goal of the season and eighth of her career.

Ahead on the scoreboard, 2-0, JCU also held a clear advantage in shots, 12-3.

In the second half, the JCU defense held strong and kept Covenant off the scoreboard as Martin recorded two saves.
