John Carroll Field Hockey Ends the Season with a Loss to Oberlin

JCU Field Hockey ends their incredible inaugural season with a 6-10 record.

OBERLIN, OH - Happy Halloween! John Carroll took the field one last time this inaugural season, ending the season with a competition against the Yeowomen.

The Blue Streaks fell to Oberlin 2-1 this afternoon, ending the season with a 6-10 record.

The game began with back-and-forth play throughout the first half.

John Carroll had their fair share of penalty corners, just unable to make anything happen throughout the half. Oberlin outshot John Carroll 4-2 in the first half.

Both teams came out hot and ready to make something happen in the third quarter.

Oberlin capitalized first, nailing one in the back of the cage just 3 minutes into the second half. The Yeowomen took the 1-0 lead over the Streaks.

With 7 penalty corners and 6 shots in the third quarter, the Streaks took over offensively in the third, the only problem being that they were unable to get past Oberlin's defense.

As the fourth quarter began, John Carroll needed to make a play here or end their season with a shutout loss.

With 8 minutes left in the game, the Streaks were granted another penalty corner, this time taking advantage of the opportunity.

Kierra Maxie fired one past the Yeowomen and found the back of the cage, making it a tied game and giving Maxie her 11th on this season.

As the game wound down, the score stayed tied 1-1. For the second game in a row, the game would progress into extra minutes.

The Streaks are no stranger to overtime play, as this is the third game this season that has gone into extra minutes.

An unfortunate foul on the Streaks gave way to a penalty corner for Oberlin.

John Carroll had no trouble stopping the Yeowomens' first shot; however, Oberlin was able to snag the quick rebound and get one past John Carroll's defense just 4 minutes into overtime.

The Yeowomen took the win on this chilly Halloween afternoon, taking the 2-1 overtime victory over the Streaks.

Although John Carroll did not come away with the victory today, the Blue Streaks have much to be proud of following a remarkable inaugural season.

The foundation has been set for a bright future, and this is only the beginning of what's to come for the future of the program.
