Men’s Track & Field In Fourth Place After Day One Of NCAC Indoor Championships

SPRINGFIELD, OH – After day one of the 2026 NCAC Indoor Championships, the Blue Streaks currently stand in fourth place overall with a total of 27 points. 

With the day being full of preliminary rounds, JCU was able to come away with points in the 5000 meter run, weight throw, long jump, and the distance medley relay.

It was a battle full of tough finishes and high placements as they will now look to find that momentum going into the second day of competition. 

Wabash College currently leads the meet with a total score of 46 points, followed by the Wittenberg Tigers with 43 points. Rounding up the top three is DePauw University with 29 points.

To get the day started, in the field events, the duo of Julius Kimbrough and Lars Broberg opened up the scoring for JCU. Kimbrough placed seventh overall with a mark of 6.74 meters, while Broberg placed eighth overall, leaping to a mark of 6.62 meters. This was Lars' first time competing in the event this indoor season. 

Moose Frombach placed fifth overall in the weight throw to help contribute in the field events. 

Sophomore Joey Naiman earned his first All-NCAC honor for JCU placing third overall, while Nate Julien fought tooth and nail for every position and ultimately earned a fifth place finish. 

The dynamic duo of Basheer Alramahi and Tyler Gast took care of business in the 400 meter dash preliminary rounds both advancing to the final, followed by Jack Arnold, who earned a new personal best in his career. Gast will also be the lone Blue Streak in the 60 meter dash final.

The 800 meter run was an exciting event to watch as Grillo, Ackerman, and Alzraqat all advance to tomorrow's final with those times. 

In the final scoring event of the day, the distance medley relay of Matthew Dienes, Vincent Ononogbo, Jordan Shininger, and Chris Whiting placed third overall, earning all-conference honors with a time of 10:18.74 to conclude day one. 


With 27 points scored on day one, the men's track & field team will look to capitalize on their opportunities on day two and will look to make history for the program in their first ever NCAC Championship appearance.
